POTOMAC RIVER SPORT FISHING LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
I. If you are fishing from a BOAT in the Potomac River:
Below the 301 Bridge - you are required to have one of the
following:
Potomac River Fisheries Sport Fishing License, or
Virginia
Saltwater Recreational License, or
Maryland Bay (Tidal) Sport Fishing
License.
Above the 301 Bridge - you are required to have one of the following:
Potomac
River Fisheries Sport Fishing License, or
Virginia Saltwater Recreational
License, or
Maryland Bay (Tidal) Sport Fishing License, or
Virginia
Statewide Freshwater Fishing License.
Above the Woodrow Wilson Bridge - you are required to have:
District of Columbia fishing License.
II. Potomac River
Fisheries Sport Fishing Licenses are also valid in:
-
All Maryland tidal waters, and
-
All Virginia tidal salt waters,
and
-
All Virginia tidal freshwater tributaries of the Potomac River downstream
of points designated by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

III. A Potomac River sport fishing license is
not required if
you:
-
Are 65 years of age or older.
-
Are less than 16 years of age.
-
Are
fishing from the Potomac shore or a pier.
-
Are fishing during the three days
before, the holiday itself, and the three days after Memorial Day, July 4th
and Labor Day.
-
Are fishing on any other Federal holiday.
-
Hold a valid
tidal/saltwater sport fishing license or are fishing from a boat holding a valid
license or are fishing from a boat holding a valid license issued by another
political jurisdiction granting reciprocal privileges with this Commission.
